Merry Christmas
The greatest gift of all
Whether we believe in the religious interpretations of the season or not, there’s important symbolism in the story of the birth of Christ, especially if we shift our focus from a historical individual to a spirit that inhabits us all.
The birth of the Christ spirit within us is further symbolized by the vertical axis of the cross, portraying the descent of spirit from formless ether into this dimension of form. The horizontal line represents our activities here, which can so easily distract us.
Do we have that vertical flow activated? Are we conscious of what is emerging from the invisible realm to take form through us in thought, word, and action moment by moment?
I’ve simplified my understanding and experience of this over the years. While this concept may not be factually accurate, it helps me stay balanced to think of that horizontal flow as mental activity while its vertical counterpart is emotional.
What are we feeling? Not in reaction to what’s going on in our environment or even within us but relative to our connection with the source of life? When I tune in, it’s always some version of gratitude as the primary emotion and a sense of elevated expansiveness as the dominant thought pattern.
This is what we can bring into the world… but we can’t give what we don’t have. So, for all those of us who wish to contribute to bettering the world, here’s specific instructions: Open up, upwards, and let the spontaneous flow of the spirit of life itself fill us to overflowing…
What a gift, to finally understand that our value does not and never did reside in what we “do,” but lives in the quality of what flows through us from the source that is constantly giving us life. And this is our gift to the world.
Merry Christmas!
