The Second Activation
Are We Experiencing Accelerated Evolution?
Something turned apes into humans.
At least, that’s one theory. What was the catalyst? That’s controversial.
Darwin’s evolutionary theory of natural selection posits that all species evolved through minor evolutionary adaptations over relatively long periods of time. Homo sapiens (us) appeared about 300,000 years ago.
Intelligent Design theory proposes that “certain complex structures in biology require an intelligent cause, rather than natural processes alone.” This makes the case for a God of some kind.
Then there’s Creationism, “holding that matter, the various forms of life, and the world were created by God out of nothing and usually in the way described in Genesis.” This theory (according to some proponents) maintains that everything was created in six 24-hour periods, 6,000–10,000 years ago.”
The most entertaining is Terrence McKenna’s stoned ape theory. He suggested that about 100,000 years ago, when the climate changed and grasslands replaced forests in Africa, grazing animals began to flourish, including cattle. Mushrooms grew in the cow poop. Apes ate the mushrooms (psilocybin) which improved their visual acuity and edge perception, making them better hunters and giving them a survival advantage. The magic mushrooms also stimulated sexual arousal so they began to outbreed abstainers. The species evolved into more a community-centric lifestyle, as patriarchy receded (another effect of the mushrooms). “He (McKenna) believed that psilocybin mushrooms were the "evolutionary catalyst" from which language, projective imagination, the arts, religion, philosophy, science, and all of human culture sprang.”
Which of these beliefs (or others) might be accurate is less important than acknowledging that we did become an evolved species, capable of miraculous creativity, unique amongst all animals. So, here’s an intriguing question (justified by the reality of our incredibly rapid evolution): are we on the verge of a second activation? If so, into what?
What If?
What if a second fundamental human transformation is imminent?
Millions of humans in every corner of the globe have been “waking up,” that is, becoming more aware of what’s really happening. It’s called “being red pilled” when the expanded awareness relates to politics, economics, etc. and (as Morpheus famously said in The Matrix film) “the world that’s been pulled over our eyes.”
In spiritual circles this awakening is often described as a graduation from dualism to oneness. Dualism rules the material world: light and dark, hot and cold, good and evil, etc. It’s how computers work, in arrays of 1’s and 0’s. Now, quantum computers are beginning to mine the space between those polarities. And those of us emerging from dualism are experiencing increasing cohesion rather than polarization, membership in a community of One.
What if we’ve been steadily accelerating towards an upgrade as dramatic as that ancient activation that led to tool making and language and incredible creativity? In this case, the transformation is self-driven. If this is actually happening to you and to me, how can we facilitate the process and how might this second activation transform us?
I propose that the answer is hidden in plain sight, right in our very name. “Human being” defines who we are, a unique two-in-one entity. We are human, complete with these bodies and minds and hearts, without which we couldn’t exist here. But we are also beings. The word “human” is a qualifier. It defines what kind of beings we are: human beings. This is fundamentally different than describing us as humans. No, we are beings. What kind? Human beings.
As long as we identify only as a human, we doom ourselves to a forever and futile attempt to make ourselves “better,” trying to turn ourselves into what we already are.
Some of us talk about our “higher self.” What does that make us then, the one who is talking about that higher self? A lower self? Just a human, someone in occasional contact with a more advanced intelligence or presence or… ? See, it’s vague.
Contrast that with identifying as eternal spirits (beings) inhabiting human forms (humans). Human beings. From this elevation, we can be honest about the limitations of our human counterparts, since they obviously don’t accurately and consistently express the divine truth of who we are. And we could give up trying to make the human into the being… why not just be the being that we are and help our human “avatar” express the occupying spirit (the one I am) more accurately and more consistently every day?
If this makes sense, then why not prioritize the acceleration of our personal evolution? Of course, that’s the aim of enlightenment or self-improvement programs, but they usually approach it from the wrong direction (identity-wise) - trying to make a human substitute for the original being, struggling to improve the human self a person identifies with, instead of identifying as the “being” and then compassionately caring for our human selves, much as we would for our child. We don’t judge them (hopefully) in their immaturity; why not be as forgiving with our human selves?
Here is the transformation this second activation could accomplish, to change our identities from human to being, from seeker to nurturer, from flawed to perfect (translated as “uniquely ourselves”).
Instantly, we can relax. A whole host of urgent issues unravel. Fear of death, for instance. We won’t ever die. How could “being” end? It / we - timeless! Shame or guilt or self-judgment? Also over. Instead, we have understanding. Our human selves are learning, growing, becoming ever more able to reflect our true nature.
Whew!
So much for a lifetime of seeking and struggle! When activation happens, we are free. Free to enjoy being here on earth and tending to the maturation of our personal humanity, to fulfill whatever destiny is ours, which we discover in the process.
This is my personal experience. I am activated. Ironically, this doesn’t promote any degree of arrogance. On the contrary, I live now in humility, seeing more clearly than ever the sins of my human self (missing the mark) and dedicating myself to improving my humanness. But what a difference, to do it from a place of contentment!
If you’ve read this far you’re probably experiencing your own version of this activation event. I’d love to hear about your challenges and breakthroughs and I’ll continue to share more details as this transformational journey continues. Particularly, I’ll be expanding on how to flow a positive impact in the world via the quantum field that connects us within the Innernet of Being (I.O.B.).

I resonate with the experience you're pointing to in this piece, Will. Please keep articulating how it unfolds. I find that encouraging and helpful.
Lot of cute metaphors Uncle Will . . . stoned ape, red pilled – love it. For me and you the ultimate truth is “All is One” ie The holographic universe. When the gods created these sacred jungles of time and space so we could experience the thrill of separation they really out-did themselves when they created the human body, especially the brain with it’s millions of synapse - connecting us to the Akashic records. Yes . . . I believe we all have the power to know everything that ever was or will be, but . . . two things are necessary first. Belief and Desire. When a person desires to learn to swim but does not believe he can learn without drowning. He, obviously, will not learn to swim as he lacks the necessary belief."
"Or the opposite, when he believes he could successfully learn to swim but would rather play tennis. Now he lacks the necessary desire, and, again, he will not learn to swim.
In regards to “magic mushrooms” psilocybin has been legalized in Oregon recently. If you like check out the Omnia Group in Ashland. I have a lady friend (Eva) who spent a lot of money to become a licensed facilitator for psilocybin therapy. She tells of miracles she has witnessed ie Alcoholics cured, PTSD, etc. Is psilocybin working on healing the synapse in our brains and making us more Macro minded – our connection to everything that ever was or will be? Maybe
