Naming the Elephant
It's right here in the room.
Please, take a seat. I don’t want anyone to fall over when I shock you with this revelation: I’m introducing an innovation. That’s right. For those who know me, this will indeed be a shock, since you know how conservative and structured I am (just kidding!). For those who don’t know me, welcome to Will’s Wonderland. Apparently, I’ll be plumbing the depths of the “unexplored obvious” forever.
Here’s the audio, for those who prefer to listen.
Before we name the elephant, as my title promises, a quick thank you to paid subscribers. I’m grateful that friends value my writing enough to buy me a coffee and muffin every month (that’s what it amounts to). Free subscribers receive the same weekly thought storm … until now.
I’m introducing a feature for paid subscribers, two in fact. First, Will’s Journal Downloads will be a short weekly audio synopsis of my morning downloads. I’ve visited distant worlds in my dreams every night since I was a child and, starting at age 10, would regularly awaken in the pitch dark to feverishly record my fantastical roamings in those nether dimensions.
So, you’ll get that, fresh out of the oven in brief audio recordings. Plus - true confession time - I started writing an erotic sci-fi novel when I first moved to Maui, over 30 years ago. Lovers Out of Time. It’s long finished but still a work in progress. I’m going to begin posting short portions of that novel every week. I’m assuming all my readers are over 18. From the preface:
An angel saw God creating human beings and warned:
“You're making them as powerful as you are.”
God laughed. “Don’t worry. I'm going to split them in two: male and female.
If they can ever manage to put themselves back together,” he mused,
“they’ll know what to do with their power.”
Then He smiled at the angel and said:
“You know, they could use some help.”
So, these are the two weekly bonuses for paid subscribers, dropping every Tuesday or Thursday. Free subscribers will get the first installment too, so you can sample what you’d be investing in before joining me in the inspiration lab.
OK, back to today’s topic.
Podcasts are my new favorite educational venue. I’m utterly enthralled with what I hear, am learning SO MUCH. And, I’ve noticed something astounding: both hosts and guests seem to be missing the obvious (hence the elephant in the room reference).
For instance, Lex Fridman, a Russian/Ukranian scientist/genius recently interviewed Fiona Hill, advisor to three presidents and expert on Russia. She knows Putin well, has been in the room with him countless times. Her detailed analysis of the Ukraine war is a must-listen. She knows the deep history and explains why, what, and who. Phenomenal.
But… and it’s a big but, at the end of their lengthy conversation, Lex asked if she could offer one piece of advice to listeners. She did… and it was so thoroughly unremarkable that I can’t even remember what she said. Fiona is not alone. I have yet to hear a single expert or host name the elephant. So, I will.
We are at war with God.
This isn’t a religious concept, it’s a short hand explanation for our tech driven efforts to replace everything natural with everything synthetic. Articificial Intelligence is so named for good reason. That’s exactly what it is! Artificial. Meanwhile, Natural Intelligence is effortlessly running the cosmos. But who cares? Apparently, the experts don’t because none of them, at least the ones I listen to, even mention this. None of them admit that this neatly explains why humanity is so off course.
The solution for every human problem is rooted in reconnecting with natural intelligence. Notice, I didn’t capitalize the term this time… because I want to present this as the norm, not a phenomenon. Our hearts are beating, aren’t they? Where’s the plug, where’s the battery?
No amount of human cleverness - disconnected from natural intelligence (including ChatGPT) - can solve the very problems created by human intelligence disconnected from natural intelligence. Duh…
That said, assuming at least some of you agree with me, what do we do about this? We prioritize reconnecting. How? It’s absurdly simple. Just like this elephant in the room, the key is likewise blissfully obvious. It’s introduced by that phrase: “Ask and you shall receive.” And it’s clarified with another phrase: “Ask in faith, nothing wavering.”
Every spiritual epiphany I’ve read or heard about and every one I’ve had myself involved a request. We must reach out to God - however we define the source animating all life experience. This takes humility and it actually requires something of us, not just expecting some gift to land in our lap. So, what are we actively doing to revive our personal connection?
Faith, that’s what I’m talking about. Commitment. And… if this is going to become our way of life, perseverance. Epiphanies come and go, usually quickly, but the sustained experience of living guided by natural intelligence only arrives and stays when we make this our absolute top priority.
I do that by meditating every day. By pausing at noon (set your watch), by starting and ending each day with conscious focus, by saying no or yes to relationships, conversations, career choices, etc… all guided by my growing intuition, that “still, small voice” the Bible talks about. Well, it’s becoming a roaring command for me!
It’s essential to believe. I believe. I believe that I am one with God. I believe that I have but one responsibility and one fulfillment, to surrender my ego aspirations to the will of the Divine, as it emerges in my thoughts and feelings. Now, now, and now.
This is humbling. And uplifting. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by the crush of life. “What should I do?” we wonder. Well, do this! Ask for guidance! “Help me… I don’t know what to do… please, give me a sign.” And then listen.
I was out kayaking with a friend the other day in search of whales. Before we set off, I asked, “What guidance do I need?” Paying attention, it came to me, so clearly, like a trumpet call in my mind as we returned to shore after a magical season on the sea: “You are absolutely on track. Keep on going without getting distracted!”
Dear friends, there is NOTHING more important than this. We must throw our whole selves into this, so passionately that we crowd out everything else, all the worrisome stuff that has commanded our attention. And what happens to that stuff? It all works out! Because now there’s someone driving the bus who knows where to go.
Ask and you shall receive. Ask in faith, nothing wavering. That’s the instructions I’m following and what I recommend. Explore life in the God lane (minus the religious concepts).
What If?
What if enough of us lived this way that our gratitude flooded human consciousness and shifted the minds of millions? Imagine being part of the solution on planet earth, not through laboring efforts to fix problems or expose and punish evil doers but because we correct the Primary Error that afflicts humanity. We can only do this for ourselves but our example will inspire others. And the impact of us doing this will build momentum towards a tipping point in the near future. Stay tuned for that!
Please, consider becoming part of the solution in every moment of your life. Of course, I know many of you have been doing this for years. How wonderful to share this quantum community experience! So, what more can we do? Well, we’ll find out as the guidance arrives …

Will, what you've written is EXACTLY on my wavelength. You and I have probably spent time together over a few thousand lives (give or take) so it's not surprising. I feel every bit as passionate as you are about being on the God Path. So let's just allow ourselves to be humble, and leave it to the Highest Power to call the shots.
BTW Gary's comment is spot on. As I write Bill Nighy is in contention for an Oscar.
Beautiful Don, thanks!
